Kuch toh log kahenge!
“Care about what other people think and you will always their prisoner"
"Log kya
kahenge?" (What will people think?) Many of us have faced this question at
least once in our lives.
Our decisions
are based on - "Log kya kahenge?” From wearing clothes, applying makeup,
to making a career choice, the first thought that strikes our mind is
-"what people will think?". In this, we neglect the fact that it's us
who have to live with those choices and decisions.
Many of us say
that we don't care about what other people think, but is it actually true? Do
we really not care? I read it on the internet that "Log kya kahenge"
has killed more dreams than anything else in the world, and I can't agree more.
This consciousness about the people plays a crucial role in our decision-making
process. We became cautious (I think being cautious is right) about everything
we do, eat, even with the person we date and the career we choose for
ourselves. A fact that we can't ignore
is hardly any of us knows who these people are.
I spent most of
my life with the fear of what will other people think? But then my parents just
told me to stop and ask a simple question from myself before I begin obsessing
over “Log kya kahenge?” Why? Why should
you think about those “PEOPLE” before you think about yourself? They are not
the one who has to live with your choices. Will they be the one to cheer you up
when you fall down in your life or break up from your boyfriend thinking it is
too much societal pressure?
Relax! Take a
gap, wear that dress and heels, and apply that dark shade of lipstick if you
want to! Choose a career that you like whether it's a Charted Accountant or an
Artist. Do everything you want to because life is too short to think about what
people will say! After 50 years from now if you look back you will cherish what
you did, achieved and experienced in your life or you can regret the chances
you didn't take because you were too concerned about what people thought.
"Better an oops than a what if!" Don’t let people who don’t matter,
decide for you and your happiness.
You can follow
Robert Downey Jr.'s (Iron Man) words if you want - "Listen, smile, agree,
and then do the f*** you were gonna do anyway."
How many times
we don't try things which we actually love just because we fear what will
society think! Just ignore the judgments and pursue what you love. These people
will keep on questioning or judging you. Don't let these things affect you and your
dreams. Don't let your kindness drift away from you. Stay humble and crush your
goals one by one!
Some beautiful
lines by Paulo Coelho –
"Going after a dream has a price. It may
mean abandoning our habits, it may make us go through hardships, or it may lead
us to disappointment. But however costly it may be, it is never as high as the
price paid by people who didn’t live.”
Think about yourself before you think about
anyone. Don't let people push you into choices you don't wanna make. You will
be there for yourself. So think twice before you think again "log
kya kahenge?" and listen to that old classic song-
"Kuch toh
log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna, chhodo bekaar ki baaton mein, kahin beet
na jaaye rainaa!!"
